"Egyptian" Stool
Thomas Hope c.1804

Inspired by Napoleon's expedition along the Nile in 1799, the design of this stool appears in his book of Household Taste published in 1804 together descriptions of its upholstery. The fabric used was fully researched for the restoration of the Hope suite of furniture from his Duchess street, London home which was acquired by the Power House Museum in 1986

Chinoiserie worktable
Presumed Chinese export ware for the English market c. 1810

Plain Peking silk, colour matched to extant fragments of inner lining of work basket shaped and pleated to reflect the compound curves of the support structure. Trimmed in hand made English silk trellis fringe embellished with flowerettes.

 

English Georgian elbow chair
 c. 1770

Upholstered in custom woven English documentary pure wool damask of the period.
