Scottish ingrain carpet or Scotch carpets first appear in England in the last ½ of the 18th century but became more widely used in the early to mid 19th century and remained popular throughout the remainder of the century until the introduction of cheaper forms of mechanized carpet.
It is woven in worsted wool as a reversible double cloth in narrow width often 36" wide.
